Page 597

وَٱلتِّينِ وَٱلزَّيْتُونِ﴿١﴾

By the fig and the olive,

وَطُورِ سِينِينَ﴿٢﴾

By Mount Sinai,

وَهَـٰذَا ٱلْبَلَدِ ٱلْأَمِينِ﴿٣﴾

And by this land made safe;

لَقَدْ خَلَقْنَا ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ فِىٓ أَحْسَنِ تَقْوِيمٍ﴿٤﴾

Surely We created man of the best stature

ثُمَّ رَدَدْنَـٰهُ أَسْفَلَ سَـٰفِلِينَ﴿٥﴾

Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ فَلَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍ﴿٦﴾

Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.

فَمَا يُكَذِّبُكَ بَعْدُ بِٱلدِّينِ﴿٧﴾

So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment?

أَلَيْسَ ٱللَّهُ بِأَحْكَمِ ٱلْحَـٰكِمِينَ﴿٨﴾

Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges?

ٱقْرَأْ بِٱسْمِ رَبِّكَ ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ﴿١﴾

Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,

خَلَقَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مِنْ عَلَقٍ﴿٢﴾

Createth man from a clot.

ٱقْرَأْ وَرَبُّكَ ٱلْأَكْرَمُ﴿٣﴾

Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,

ٱلَّذِى عَلَّمَ بِٱلْقَلَمِ﴿٤﴾

Who teacheth by the pen,

عَلَّمَ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ مَا لَمْ يَعْلَمْ﴿٥﴾

Teacheth man that which he knew not.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَيَطْغَىٰٓ﴿٦﴾

Nay, but verily man is rebellious

أَن رَّءَاهُ ٱسْتَغْنَىٰٓ﴿٧﴾

That he thinketh himself independent!

إِنَّ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ ٱلرُّجْعَىٰٓ﴿٨﴾

Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.

أَرَءَيْتَ ٱلَّذِى يَنْهَىٰ﴿٩﴾

Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth

عَبْدًا إِذَا صَلَّىٰٓ﴿١٠﴾

A slave when he prayeth?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَانَ عَلَى ٱلْهُدَىٰٓ﴿١١﴾

Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)

أَوْ أَمَرَ بِٱلتَّقْوَىٰٓ﴿١٢﴾

Or enjoineth piety?

أَرَءَيْتَ إِن كَذَّبَ وَتَوَلَّىٰٓ﴿١٣﴾

Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward?

أَلَمْ يَعْلَم بِأَنَّ ٱللَّهَ يَرَىٰ﴿١٤﴾

Is he then unaware that Allah seeth?

كَلَّا لَئِن لَّمْ يَنتَهِ لَنَسْفَعًۢا بِٱلنَّاصِيَةِ﴿١٥﴾

Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock -

نَاصِيَةٍ كَـٰذِبَةٍ خَاطِئَةٍ﴿١٦﴾

The lying, sinful forelock -

فَلْيَدْعُ نَادِيَهُۥ﴿١٧﴾

Then let him call upon his henchmen!

سَنَدْعُ ٱلزَّبَانِيَةَ﴿١٨﴾

We will call the guards of hell.

كَلَّا لَا تُطِعْهُ وَٱسْجُدْ وَٱقْتَرِب ۩﴿١٩﴾

Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).
