وَٱلْعَصْرِ﴿١﴾

By the declining day,

إِنَّ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنَ لَفِى خُسْرٍ﴿٢﴾

Lo! man is a state of loss,

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّـٰلِحَـٰتِ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلْحَقِّ وَتَوَاصَوْا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ﴿٣﴾

Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance.

وَيْلٌ لِّكُلِّ هُمَزَةٍ لُّمَزَةٍ﴿١﴾

Woe unto every slandering traducer,

ٱلَّذِى جَمَعَ مَالًا وَعَدَّدَهُۥ﴿٢﴾

Who hath gathered wealth (of this world) and arranged it.

يَحْسَبُ أَنَّ مَالَهُۥٓ أَخْلَدَهُۥ﴿٣﴾

He thinketh that his wealth will render him immortal.

كَلَّا ۖ لَيُنۢبَذَنَّ فِى ٱلْحُطَمَةِ﴿٤﴾

Nay, but verily he will be flung to the Consuming One.

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْحُطَمَةُ﴿٥﴾

Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Consuming One is!

نَارُ ٱللَّهِ ٱلْمُوقَدَةُ﴿٦﴾

(It is) the fire of Allah, kindled,

ٱلَّتِى تَطَّلِعُ عَلَى ٱلْأَفْـِٔدَةِ﴿٧﴾

Which leapeth up over the hearts (of men).

إِنَّهَا عَلَيْهِم مُّؤْصَدَةٌ﴿٨﴾

Lo! it is closed in on them

فِى عَمَدٍ مُّمَدَّدَةٍۭ﴿٩﴾

In outstretched columns.

أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ﴿١﴾

Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant?

أَلَمْ يَجْعَلْ كَيْدَهُمْ فِى تَضْلِيلٍ﴿٢﴾

Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,

وَأَرْسَلَ عَلَيْهِمْ طَيْرًا أَبَابِيلَ﴿٣﴾

And send against them swarms of flying creatures,

تَرْمِيهِم بِحِجَارَةٍ مِّن سِجِّيلٍ﴿٤﴾

Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,

فَجَعَلَهُمْ كَعَصْفٍ مَّأْكُولٍۭ﴿٥﴾

And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle)?
